This piece is my way of imagining Black identity as cosmic, ancient, and expansive, far beyond the limits history often tries to impose. I placed the central figure in conversation with planets, satellites, and celestial textures to suggest that Black existence is deeply embedded within the universe. Through collage, layering space imagery, planetary forms, and fragments of earthly textures. I reflect how identity is constructed, complex, and infinite. The cowrie shells act as a cultural and spiritual anchor, connecting ancestry and African heritage to this vast cosmic space. For the Black Mythology Project, I want this work to frame Black identity as mythic, celestial, and timeless. I’m interested in shifting the lens away from limitation and toward creation, power, and possibility. The figure exists as both human and cosmic, suggesting that our stories are as vast and evolving as the universe itself.
