The artwork titled “Statue Figure No. 1” is a representation of the black body in America. Violently silenced, too often generalized, I wanted to make a piece of art that reflected an unfortunate but very real reality. Although there’s so much violence inflicted against us, and we are only seen as black figures, we are worth so much more on the inside and despite it all that continues to shine through.
