The North Nashville Culture Crawl provides a platform for BIPOC artists to showcase their creativity and connect with the community in ways that honors, preserves, and advances the rtistic legacy of North Nashville. North Nashville, once called the Harlem of the South, was systematically dismantled by politicians and citizens who used every tool at their disposal to destroy Black wealth. Today, North Nashville lives in the enduring after-life of racist urban planning practices as the home of one of the highest incarcerated and fastest gentrifying neighborhoods in the country. So the North Nashville Arts Coalition is committed to ensuring that Black artists thrive in Nashville and have a voice in imagining and designing our future city. The Black Mythology Experience featured an art gallery dedicated to the themes of memory and imagination, a storytelling laboratory where participants were invited into intimacy with the textures of their experiences, and a memory mapping activity where those experiences were situated in place-time so that their neighbors could identify themselves in these memories too.
